Composition and Theory

Composition

Explore music creation and composition while building a set of tools and skillsets for music writing. Victor students have won first places in competitions at Branch and Provincial levels, including finalists at national level.

In a composition lesson the students are expected to learn proper music notation, piece structure, musical forms, harmony, voice leading, textures, and counterpoint.

You can listen to some examples and pieces from me and my students.

Theory

As a certified teacher in theory, harmony, and counterpoint by Ontario Registered Music Teachers, I commonly prepare students for RCM exams or teach theory to students who want a deep understanding of Music Analysis, Structures and Forms. I had students successfully pass theory exams of RCM 8, RCM 9, RCM 10, ARCT Harmony and ARCT Analysis.

It could be in a private lesson or in a group class setup. Please email to see if there is a class available for your level, or if you have 2 or more people interested, we can start a theory class. The lessons are mostly online with weekly assignments, homework, and readings. It usually takes between 4 to 10 months to prepare a successful RCM Theory exam depending on the RCM Grade and students’ knowledge.
